When food is made with love, it's especially delicious, and we all have those favorite recipes handed down from grandma and mom that provide a sense of nostalgia and comfort. In honor of Mother's Day, we'd like to share something sweet, so we asked the families of residents to share their favorite handed-down family recipes.
"Our neighbor gave us a loaf of this on a cold winter day when I was a little girl and that is why it was one of my mom’s favorite recipes."
Cream: 2 cups of sugar
1 cup of butter
Add: 3 cups of applesauce (use unsweetened)
Sift: 4 cups flour
2 tsps. Ground cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
4 tsps. cinnamon
4 tsps. Soda
1/8 tsp. salt
Also: 2 cups chopped nuts
2 cups raisins
Cream; add applesauce; stir in next 6 ingredients; fold in nuts and raisins.
Bake 1 hour at 400 degrees or 1 1/2 hours at 375 degrees. I use a tube pan, but you can also make small loaves.
Do you have a family recipe to share? We'll add it to this post so others can enjoy it. Please send recipes to marketing.dept@shannondaletn.org.
