Learn more about it through one of our patient’s first-hand accounts of the experience.

I came to WellPark for physical therapy following an ankle injury. To be specific, I had an ankle avulsion fracture which my doctor explained occurs when a tendon or ligament pulls off a piece of the fractured bone. I had been walking in a boot (Bledsoe) for seven weeks which allowed me to walk on the injured foot with limitations.

My orthopedic doctor recommended WellPark. And this was how it worked:

I started my experience checking in with Cam at the front desk and completed paperwork concerning the details of the injury, pain and my insurance coverage. My first appointment was with Chris, a doctor of physical therapy (DPT). During this first visit, Chris determined my degree of discomfort and the challenges I had with mobility. He was very detailed in his explanation of what my injury was and how it affected the healing process. He then examined my foot and ankle and checked the movement to determine a plan of treatment. He also spent time answering my questions, like, “Why is my ankle swelling so much?” and “How long is this going to take to heal?” I’d like to say I loved his answers, but at least I knew where I stood.

The next visit was to start the rehabilitation of the ankle and foot. I can tell you my foot had lost most of its ability to move at this point, having been in the boot for almost four weeks prior to starting therapy. The plan involved doing physical movement with the ankle and foot. The exercise bike was used for movement and exercise while seated. I also practiced not moving my leg—only the foot—while attempting to spell the alphabet in the air and using a towel for beneficial stretching exercises.

I am now on my third week of therapy and I can honestly say, “WellPark and Chris have been such a benefit to my foot. Without the expertise of Chris, PT, DPT, I’m sure I would not have seen this improvement. The pain of the injury started to clear about one week ago!”

I am now being weaned from the boot. Chris is working in conjunction with my orthopedic doctor to slowly start the process of relearning balance.
